Why is your site called The Hungry Grass?
There is a tale in Irish folklore that originates from the Great Famine that warns of patches of cursed grass. If a person passed over this grass it was said that they would suffer insatiable hunger and, in some iterations of the tale, would drop dead on the spot. I am convinced that there is a constant patch of cursed grass laid out like the red carpet of my life, causing me insatiable and deadly hunger.
Stuff about me:
The simple truth of the matter is that I love to eat. What I love more than eating is feeding people. I cannot wait all day to be at the market or in the kitchen cooking and baking in a way I feel is akin to the Swedish Chef.
Along with being in the kitchen as much as possible I am a part of a two-man team – My ever-loving husband Vlad is my other half. He will try anything I put in front of him which, sadly, is usually a questionable container of milk. I also have two teenage stepsons and the three of them constantly inspire, encourage and challenge me.
My mother picked up an amalgamation of classic comfort budget-friendly Americana from her depression era grandparents and single mother of 6. When she married my father she mastered the culinary art of Mexican cooking which she learned from his mother and so I grew up eating AmeriMexicana. When I married my husband I took a page from my mother’s book and did my best to learn Italian from his entire family. They came here from Siracusa, Sicily and brought their amazing talents with them. Together these women and men and their sisters and brothers, parents and grandparents have blazed this incredible culinary path for me that I stumble along hoping to learn as much as possible.
I wish I could say this blog will be dedicated to the fine culinary arts but that just isn’t true. My family, friends and daily life inspire everything that happens in my kitchen and I just don’t think you would be able to understand my madness if I didn’t include all of it.
Please let me know if you tried out one of my recipes and how you liked it! If you have a blog or questions or just want to say hi please leave a comment.
